Position Summary:
The Resident Inspector / UT Program Lead is responsible for managing and executing ultrasonic testing (UT) programs at a customer facility. The role involves coordinating inspection schedules, ensuring data accuracy within mechanical integrity systems, and supporting inspection strategies for piping, tanks, and vessels. The position also includes technical leadership responsibilities such as training personnel, reviewing inspection data, and contributing to the continuous improvement of NDT procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily scheduling and execution of UT testing activities.
- Monitor and validate data entry in the Mechanical Integrity database (PSAim) to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Review low remaining life data and verify field data for accuracy.
- Ensure proper inspection coverage by validating and creating thickness monitoring locations (TMLs).
- Coordinate and perform inspections, including working at heights or on mobile platforms as required.
- Update piping isometrics and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Collaborate with drafting teams to update or correct piping data in inspection databases.
- Coordinate with offsite inspection teams, including radiography crews, to integrate additional data.
- Conduct UT weld inspections for new piping fabrication.
- Train internal and contractor personnel in NDT-related activities.
- Recommend improvements to NDT procedures and inspection programs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of UT experience (Level II experience preferred).
- Additional certifications in PT/MT are advantageous.
- Experience working with Mechanical Integrity databases (minimum 1 year).
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in industrial inspection, plant engineering, or mechanical reliability is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD.
- Ability to write detailed technical reports and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Structural Engineering or related field preferred.
- Certification for confined space entry and mobile platforms (e.g., boom lifts).
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must be local to Upstate New York or willing to relocate.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must pass a drug screening.
- Must meet U.S. export control requirements (U.S. Person status).
