Position Summary:

The RBI & Corrosion Integrity Specialist is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs in accordance with API 580/581 standards. The role involves executing RBI projects, conducting corrosion and integrity assessments, developing inspection strategies, supporting fitness-for-service evaluations, and providing technical expertise across upstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, and chemical plant operations. The specialist works closely with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and stakeholders to ensure asset integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Management
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of RBI programs in accordance with API 580 and API 581.
  • Independently execute RBI-related projects and assessments.
  • Ensure all static equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, tanks, and relief devices, are covered within the RBI system.
  • Coordinate RBI assessments across plants, business units, and maintenance functions.
  • Manage RBI schedules and ensure timely completion of assessments and updates.
  • Perform comprehensive RBI studies according to project scope and contractual requirements.
  • Conduct equipment criticality rankings using qualitative and quantitative RBI methodologies.
  • Identify credible damage mechanisms using API RP 571 and plant-specific degradation data.
  • Develop optimized inspection strategies, including NDE methods, inspection intervals, coverage, and access requirements.
  • Recommend inspection techniques such as UT, PAUT, TOFD, MFL, RT, AE, and IRIS.
  • Optimize turnaround inspection scopes while maintaining risk at ALARP levels.
  • Review inspection findings and update RBI models based on actual inspection data.
  • Corrosion and Integrity Management
  • Conduct corrosion management studies, corrosion risk assessments, RBI studies, failure analyses, and materials selection reviews.
  • Provide corrosion expertise during risk-based assessments and multidisciplinary project activities.
  • Perform ECDA, ICDA, and SCCDA studies and prepare associated reports.
  • Evaluate internal and external corrosion mechanisms and recommend corrosion management solutions, including cathodic protection, coatings, chemical treatment, remediation, and repairs.
  • Support corrosion modeling, testing, prediction, and corrosion rate calculations.
  • Assess material compatibility with temperature, pressure, and oilfield environments.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor scopes, specifications, and corrosion-related requirements during project and enquiry phases.
  • Review and analyze cathodic protection (CP) data.
  • Inspection and Fitness-for-Service
  • Perform or support Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
  • Support Remaining Life Assessments (RLA) to ensure continued safe and reliable operation of equipment and piping.
  • Participate in inspection planning, risk assessment, direct assessment, on-stream inspection, and turnaround inspection activities.
  • Client and Business Support
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, subject matter experts, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop project work scopes and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Deliver technical reports, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Support business growth by identifying opportunities, building client relationships, and converting contacts into business opportunities.
  • Health, Safety, Environment (HSE)
  • Comply with BV Cardinal Safety Rules and all applicable HSE requirements.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, guidelines, and local legal requirements related to HSE.

Qualifications:

  • B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • API 571 certification (Mandatory).
  • API 580 certification (Mandatory).

Requirements:

Experience:

  • 10–15 years of experience in upstream oil & gas, downstream refining and petrochemicals, power generation utilities, or chemical plants.
  • Experience in refinery inspection, pipeline inspection, and Fitness-for-Service assessments.
  • Strong pipeline integrity experience, including all four stages of Direct Assessment.

Hands-on experience in:

  • On-stream inspections
  • Turnaround inspections
  • Risk-Based Inspection (RBI)
  • Direct Assessment
  • Risk Assessment
  • Inspection Planning
  • Experience using integrity management software such as Meridium, Bentley, and similar tools.
  • Experience reviewing cathodic protection-related data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GE Meridium Software experience.
  • NACE Corrosion Technologist certification preferred, particularly with oil and gas industry experience.
  • Technical Knowledge

Strong knowledge of:

  • API 571, API 510, API 570, API 580, API 581
  • OISD standards
  • Offshore standards
  • API, ASME, ASTM, and ANSI codes related to RBI, corrosion, and inspection
