Position Summary:
PROtect LLC is seeking a Phased Array Technician to conduct nondestructive testing (NDT) inspections of structures, pipelines, and other components using advanced methods such as x-ray, ultrasound, Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT), Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), Magnetic Particle, Laser Profilometry, and visual inspections. The technician will be responsible for operating and calibrating equipment, identifying material defects, completing inspection documentation, and providing guidance to assistants while ensuring safety standards are upheld.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct NDT inspections in compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Utilize NDT techniques including x-ray, ultrasound, PAUT, TOFD, Magnetic Particle, Laser Profilometry, and visual inspections.
- Select, prepare, calibrate, and operate inspection equipment.
- Identify and evaluate material defects using appropriate methods.
- Complete required documentation and work orders thoroughly and on time.
- Drive company vehicles while maintaining a safe driving record.
- Provide instruction and oversight to assistants while ensuring crew safety.
Job Qualifications:
- Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certification and Licensure
- Valid driver’s license with insurability under company insurance carrier.
- Ultrasonic Shearwave certification.
- Magnetic Particle Inspection certification.
- Minimum of 80 hours from a recognized PAUT training course.
- 320 documented on-the-job training (OJT) hours in PAUT.
- Eddy Current Level II certification preferred.
- Work Experience
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge in NDT methods.
- Experience in Shear Wave and Phased Array Ultrasonics required.
- Pipeline integrity experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Must meet safety weight requirements for harness use.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in multiple NDT methods with a commitment to ongoing learning.
- Intermediate mechanical knowledge.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations with ability to enforce compliance.
- Ability to work long shifts (up to 16 hours), respond to call-outs, and travel extensively for extended periods.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs frequently, and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills with ability to instruct others effectively.
- Must be willing to travel more than 75%.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Work performed on uneven terrain, at heights, and near hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical components, and chemicals.
- Activities include climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for extended periods, and repetitive motions.
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, and confined spaces is common.
- Requires focus, adaptability, and strong physical endurance.
