Position Summary:
The NDT Technologist provides specialized technical expertise in support of non-destructive examination (NDE) applications, including planning and preparation, project execution, and project or program management. The role involves interpreting complex codes, determining appropriate inspection techniques, verifying the accuracy of procedures, and organizing and generating reports for all testing and evaluations performed. This position supports nuclear industry clients by ensuring safe, compliant, and technically sound NDT operations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe work and design practices and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company procedures and policies.
- Own safety performance rates and foster a positive safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all company and statutory procedures, standards, and specifications.
- Oversee NDT operations as a technical expert.
- Develop and approve inspection procedures and guidelines implementing project-specific quality assurance and quality control plans and condition assessments.
- Supervise the preparation and calibration of NDT testing equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and Operations Manager to apply codes and testing criteria based on project parameters.
- Review and verify NDT examination results for accuracy and precision; generate and organize test reports.
- Research and recommend new technologies to improve NDE processes and techniques, meet customer demands, and increase productivity.
- Complete required job reports and related documentation.
- Provide guidance to less experienced engineers, technicians, and machinists.
Qualifications:
Required:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to satisfy all Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) security requirements to obtain unescorted access to nuclear power plants.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of NDE Level II certified field experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of Ultrasonic Angle Beam (UTSW) experience.
- Ability to operate standard and specialized NDE/NDT equipment.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
- Detail-oriented engineering skills with strong math and geometry capabilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Strong critical thinking, logic, and deductive reasoning skills.
- Professional attitude demonstrating strong workplace character.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including use of web-based service literature and programs.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred:
- AUT, GWUT, FMC/TFM, ET, and AET qualifications or experience.
- Experience in nuclear environments, including EPRI PDI qualifications, PAUT, MT, PT, and VT.
Requirements:
- Ability to meet NRC security requirements for unescorted access to nuclear facilities.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
