Position Summary:
The NDT Technician Assistant will support experienced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technicians in conducting inspections on structures, pipelines, and components using x-ray, ultrasound, or related equipment. This role provides hands-on field experience and training in the use of advanced NDT methods, contributing to safety, quality assurance, and structural integrity across multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist NDT Technicians in setting up and operating equipment for non-destructive testing in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
- Support inspections using various NDT methods, including gamma and x-ray radiography, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, leak testing, and visual inspection.
- Help prepare, load, calibrate, and operate NDT equipment under supervision.
- Assist in identifying material defects and anomalies during testing.
- Safely drive company vehicles and maintain a clean driving record.
- Participate in on-the-job training, learning advanced NDT techniques from lead technicians.
- Follow all instructions, procedures, and safety regulations to ensure the safety of the entire team.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Safety Awareness: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adherence to all applicable safety policies and regulations.
- Work Ethic: Ability to work a demanding schedule, including extended hours (up to 16-hour days), call-outs, and travel to remote job sites.
- Physical Capability: Able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly and up to 150 lbs with assistance; capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and working in confined spaces and extreme environmental conditions.
- Professionalism: Maintain proper appearance, punctuality, and a positive attitude when interacting with clients and team members.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with colleagues and follow instructions to ensure task completion and safety compliance.
Education & Certification
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Licensure: Valid driver’s license and insurability through PROtect LLC’s insurance carrier.
- Preferred: TWIC Card.
- Experience: Prior relevant work experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
