Position Summary

American Engineering Testing, Inc. is seeking a Level II Shear Wave Ultrasound Technician (UT) to perform nondestructive testing (NDT) inspections with minimal supervision. This role includes interpreting results, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, and AWS standards. The technician will work in various environments, including construction sites, industrial plants, and confined spaces, often at elevated heights. Responsibilities also include mentoring junior staff and maintaining detailed inspection documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform NDT inspections using Level II Shear Wave Ultrasound (UT-SW) and other certified methods (UT, MT, PT, RT, VT).
  • Interpret and evaluate test results based on applicable codes and standards.
  • Accurately report inspection results and maintain documentation.
  • Calibrate testing equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to communicate findings.
  • Assist with training and mentoring NDT Technician 1 personnel.
  • Comply with all safety protocols and site-specific requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Level II certification in Shear Wave Ultrasound (UT).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in NDT inspections.
  • Familiarity with ASME, ASTM, API, AWS, and other related industry standards.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments including heights and confined spaces.
  • Must pass an FBI fingerprint-based background check.

Preferred Skills

  • Additional Level II certifications (MT, PT, RT, VT).
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve technical issues effectively.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Combination of field and office work, with frequent travel to project sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor environments, uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated heights (up to 200 feet).
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 70 lbs, extended standing, and frequent movement.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling of equipment weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Must meet vision requirements including depth perception, color, and peripheral vision.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Wage: $25.00 – $33.00 (based on experience)
