Position Summary
The NDT Level III Examiner serves as the single point of contact ensuring that all NDT methods and the Workmanship program are compliant with customer requirements, specifications, and Oceaneering quality manuals. Responsibilities include oversight of NDT personnel certification, method audits, vendor evaluations, training, and liaison duties during audits and inspections. Occasional overtime and frequent travel are expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct internal audits, surveillance, and performance evaluations for all assigned NDT methods and vendors.
- Translate customer and regulatory requirements into internal procedures for NDT and Workmanship programs.
- Develop and deliver classroom training, exams, and practical testing for NDT personnel certification.
- Maintain and track certification records, performance reviews, and process revisions.
- Establish calibration procedures and respond to audit findings related to NDT programs.
- Serve as the audit liaison between Oceaneering and external parties.
- May perform hands-on inspections, support Tiger Team initiatives, or pursue additional certifications (e.g., CWI, API).
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience (one of the following paths):
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering/science + 1 year as Level II in the applicable method(s); or
- 2 years technical or scientific college study + 2 years as Level II; or
- 4 years of experience as Level II in the applicable method(s).
Certifications & Skills:
- Multiple NDT certifications preferred (e.g., VT, PT, MT, UT, RT, ET).
- Familiarity with ship construction and U.S. Navy repair work.
- Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and auditing skills.
- NBPL certification a plus.
Citizenship & Security:
- Must be a U.S. citizen (non-dual).
- Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance.
Working Conditions
Environment:
- Primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors (including night shifts).
- Frequent exposure to noise (>85 dB), fumes, airborne dust, and high heat/humidity or cold.
- Work in confined spaces, near moving/vibrating equipment, with occasional exposure to sparks or open flame.
- Close physical proximity to others in shared workspaces.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work:
- Occasional: lift 20–50 lbs, crawl, kneel, color differentiation, wear full PPE.
- Frequent: lift 10–25 lbs, climb ladders/stairs, operate vehicles, extended reaching.
- Constant: lift up to 10 lbs, use vision/hearing/body PPE, maintain posture while seated or standing for extended periods.
