Position Summary:

The NDT Level II Inspector at Oceaneering Marine Services Division (MSD) plays a critical role in ensuring that non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures are executed to meet customer specifications and industry standards. This position is responsible for equipment setup, result interpretation, inspection reporting, and mentoring of NDT trainees. Working in a dynamic team environment, the inspector must demonstrate strong technical expertise and analytical ability, ensuring the integrity of critical assets. Travel and overtime may be required, with the opportunity to contribute directly to the success of mission-critical projects in maritime and defense sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection and Testing

  • Set up and calibrate NDT equipment in accordance with required standards.
  • Perform inspections using various methods including:
  • Visual Testing (VT)
  • Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Ultrasonic Shear Wave Testing (UT)

Analysis and Reporting

  • Accurately interpret and evaluate results based on applicable codes and standards.
  • Document and organize inspection results using company Quality Assurance forms.
  • Understand the scope and limitations of each NDT method being applied.

Equipment and Process Management

  • Maintain custody and ensure readiness of all NDT Level II inspection equipment.
  • Adhere to and support internal quality assurance procedures.

Training and Compliance

  • Guide and support NDT trainees as needed.
  • Ensure personal training and certification records are up to date.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety and security policies.

Customer and Team Collaboration

  • Communicate inspection results and technical findings clearly to clients and internal teams.
  • Operate effectively as a part of a cross-functional Tiger Team in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or military background preferred.
  • Documented military or industrial NDT experience that meets Level II certification criteria.
  • Previous experience working with submarines or surface combat ships is recommended.

Certifications

  • Current Level II certification in the following methods is required:
  • Visual Testing (VT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Ultrasonic Shear Wave Testing (UT)
  • Additional certifications (e.g., Radiographic Testing [RT], Eddy Current Testing [ET]) are preferred.
  • NBPL certification is a plus.

Documentation Requirements

  • Applicants should include digital copies of relevant NDT certifications and OJT records with their application.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship) is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in shipyard, manufacturing, and base environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures, industrial noise, and uneven ground.
  • Physical Demands

This is considered a Medium Work position, involving:

  • Occasional: Lifting 20–50 lbs, crawling, kneeling, working in confined spaces, PPE for skin protection.
  • Frequent: Lifting 10–25 lbs, climbing, stooping, reaching overhead, using motor vehicles.
  • Constant: Lifting up to 10 lbs, wearing body, vision, and hearing protection.
