Position Summary:
The NDT Inspector Level II – Radiography will perform radiographic inspections on flight-critical metallic and composite hardware and test samples for Blue Origin’s reusable spaceflight systems. This role requires advanced knowledge of non-film radiography, strict adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to interpret inspection results with precision. Working as part of the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) team, the inspector will support development and production activities to ensure the integrity, reliability, and safety of spaceflight components.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain inspection techniques for hardware, ensuring compliance with safety and specification requirements.
- Perform inspections using Digital Radiographic Testing (DRT).
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria from drawings or shop work orders.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly process control checks.
- Document and organize inspection results in accordance with company procedures.
- Communicate inspection outcomes to engineers and managers.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years Level II experience in non-film radiography (DR or CR).
- Ability to pass Radiographic General and Specific Tests by week 3 (study materials provided if required).
- Meets minimum NAS-410 training requirements in Radiography, including:
- 40 hours Radiation Safety Training
- 40 hours Digital Radiography Training
- Minimum of 800 documented hours in Non-Film Radiography
- Meets NAS-410 vision requirements:
- Near Vision: 20/25 Snellen at 16" or Jaeger No.1 at 12"
- Color Perception: 12 of 14 panels correctly identified on Ishihara Color Test
- Familiar with ASTM standards: E1742, E2445, E2698.
- Proficiency in operating NDT inspection and radiation safety equipment.
- Ability to analyze results from metallic and composite structures.
- Skilled in blueprint and schematic diagram interpretation.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to lift and transport inspection equipment and parts within OSHA requirements.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts to meet critical deadlines.
- Experience in both laboratory and field inspection environments.
- U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or lawful status (refugee/asylum) per export control regulations.
Desired Qualifications:
- State or ASNT/IRRSP certification as a radiographer (X-ray).
- NAS-410 training in additional NDT methods: Ultrasonics, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle.
- Certification in one or more additional NDT methods (UT, ET, PT, MT, IR, or emergent methods such as Terahertz or Laser Shearography).
- Training in Computed and Digital Radiography.
- Advanced Phased Array training.
- Knowledge of aerospace industry NDT standards.
- Experience with automated or robotic inspection equipment.
- Prior aerospace industry experience (minimum 1 year preferred).
