Position Summary
The Metallurgical Technician is responsible for performing hands-on materials testing and machining of test specimens in a laboratory setting. Based at the Miamisburg, Ohio headquarters, the technician collaborates closely with other team members and Materials Engineers to ensure the accurate execution of metallurgical procedures. The position requires the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Execute sample preparation and testing based on instructions from Materials Engineers or detailed work orders.
- Utilize machining tools such as CNC lathes, mills, and grinding wheels to prepare test specimens.
- Conduct sample preparation for metallographic analysis, including cutting, mounting, and polishing.
- Perform materials testing and evaluations, including:
- Chemical analysis using Optical Emission Spectrometry and Combustion techniques
- Mechanical property evaluations
- Hardness testing (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers)
- Tensile and Charpy impact testing
- Maintain lab equipment with routine preventive maintenance.
- Ensure accurate labeling and traceability of samples, results, and remnants.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Adhere strictly to quality control and safety standards.
- Complete other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, CNC machining, or lab environments preferred.
- Familiarity with lathes, mills, abrasive saws, bandsaws, and metallurgical sample preparation techniques is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and organizational tools is expected.

- Logical reasoning and the ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram format.
- Familiarity with internet browsers and willingness to learn specialized software for metallographic evaluations.
- Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, and occasional stooping or kneeling.
- Work is conducted in proximity to moving mechanical parts and under fume hoods with chemical exposure.
- The typical noise level is moderate.
