Position Summary:

The Mechanical/Materials Engineer participates as part of an engineering team to develop, customize, improve, and sustain product and service solutions for customer applications. The role focuses on materials of construction across product lines and supports engineering, manufacturing, quality, and research activities by applying sound engineering principles. The engineer contributes to product development, material selection, validation, process improvement, and integrity assessments while collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new or customized product designs and improve existing technologies under the direction of Technical Leads and Product Engineers
  • Assist in applying customer requirements to engineering and design activities
  • Create product documentation, including build, operation, and maintenance manuals
  • Produce technical reports, material specifications, test reports, and analysis documentation
  • Work with manufacturers and technicians to identify production or assembly issues and implement corrective actions
  • Communicate project schedules, progress, and status updates to supervisors and project stakeholders
  • Support validation processes for new or customized products
  • Gain working knowledge of company technologies and engineering systems
  • Initiate and facilitate engineering change processes
  • Document and validate engineering improvements for production releases
  • Assist with research and development activities, including material approvals and process design
  • Perform material selection reviews, lifetime expectancy calculations, and fitness-for-service assessments
  • Test specimens according to accepted standards to evaluate material properties
  • Recommend improvements to materials, coatings, or heat treatments
  • Collaborate with suppliers to qualify material systems and maintain process control standards
  • Engage with external partners including suppliers, fabricators, contractors, and engineering firms to support product solutions
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to improve product integrity through material analysis
  • Develop standards, methods, processes, and procedures for evaluating material properties and quality performance
  • Support material and degradation mechanism reviews for the global engineering solutions business

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • 3–8 years of engineering experience
  • Experience with PLM systems and engineering change processes
  • Experience using solid modeling software such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks required
  • Familiarity with PLM or PDM systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Requirements:

  • Ability to work 2nd shift hours (3 PM to 11 PM)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ownership, accountability, and adaptability
  • Attention to detail and continuous learning mindset
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, DFMEA, manufacturing processes, machine design principles, and problem-solving tools
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and DFM/A
  • Familiarity with FEA software, including simulation tools and ANSYS preferred
  • Intermediate PLM software skills preferred, including TeamCenter or MasterControl
