Position Summary
Oceaneering is seeking a Level III Rope Access Technician to lead field and offshore operations. This position is responsible for managing job site safety, supervising rope access work crews, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and procedures. The technician will conduct inspections, oversee logistical readiness, and contribute technical expertise in various environments, including offshore, confined spaces, and elevated locations. Domestic and occasional international travel is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field operations and ensure safety management of rope access teams.
- Inspect offshore structures, vessels, and pipelines for compliance and integrity.
- Identify defects such as cracks, corrosion, pits, incomplete welds, and other anomalies.
- Conduct CP readings using the drop-cell technique and create technical sketches and documentation.
- Maintain inspection tools and coordinate with project managers and clients to support workflow and satisfaction.
- Conduct equipment maintenance and manage logistics for field readiness.
- Perform and supervise on-the-job training and mentoring of team members.
- Provide project management and ensure adherence to SPRAT, IRATA, and internal SOPs.
- Document inspection findings and provide actionable recommendations.
- Conduct safety briefings, risk mitigation, and enforce protocol compliance.
- Communicate with clients regarding project progress and specific requirements.
- Perform additional duties to support operational and organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Level III Rope Access Technician.
- Valid SPRAT or IRATA Level III certification.
- Experience with both onshore and offshore projects.
- Proficiency in inspection tools and techniques.
- Must possess or obtain TWIC card, valid driver’s license, passport, Safe Gulf, HUET Water Survival, and other offshore documentation as required.
- Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Advanced understanding of rope access safety, techniques, and inspection standards.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and internal systems.
- Physically capable of working at heights and in challenging environments.
- Willingness to travel and work offshore for extended periods.
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in Inspection or NDT.
- NDT Level II and ASNT certifications preferred.
- Petzl PPE Training & Inspection Certification.

- Ability to write technical reports, procedures, and correspondence.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Mathematical proficiency in geometry, ratios, and statistical analysis.
- Effective problem-solving in non-standardized situations.
- Ability to interpret varied forms of instructions and maintain effective communication across project teams.
- Commitment to ongoing feedback and information sharing within the team.
Working Conditions
- Offshore work with exposure to extreme weather, noise, moving equipment, and hazardous materials.
- Frequent work at heights, confined spaces, or in high humidity and noise environments.
- Use of PPE required, including protection for eyes, skin, hearing, and respiratory systems.
- On-call availability and ability to travel with short notice.
Physical Activity/Requirements
- Classified as HEAVY work.
- Must lift up to 100 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently.
- Frequent standing, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and operating vehicles.
- Requires physical dexterity, endurance, and ability to work in PPE and varied environments.
