Position Summary:
The NDT Assistant supports certified NDT Technicians in performing non-destructive testing inspections of materials and structures such as pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural steel. The role involves assisting with inspection methods including radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, leak testing, and visual inspections. The NDT Assistant helps prepare and operate inspection equipment, follows safety procedures, and contributes to ensuring the reliability and safety of critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup and use of equipment for non-destructive testing of components and materials in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Assist in performing NDT inspections including gamma radiography, X-ray radiography, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, leak testing, and visual inspections.
- Assist in NDT examination techniques including selecting, preparing, loading, calibrating, and operating testing equipment.
- Assist in identifying defects in materials using appropriate testing techniques.
- Drive company vehicles and maintain a safe driving record.
- Train on experienced tasks and learn new inspection activities from Lead Technicians.
- Follow instructions and support team safety during all inspection activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and maintain punctual attendance.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow specific instructions.
- Preferred: Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and insurability through PROtect, LLC’s insurance carrier.
- Ability to work demanding and flexible schedules, including workdays up to 16 hours.
- Ability to respond to call-outs on short notice and remain on-site for extended periods including long-distance travel.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds on uneven terrain and occasionally exert force to move objects up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle equipment, stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, and perform repetitive motion.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme cold or heat.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, electrical components, and chemical exposures.
- Visual acuity required for inspection tasks and ability to meet safety harness weight restrictions.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to follow applicable safety regulations and policies.
- Professional appearance and conduct appropriate to work assignments.
- TWIC card preferred.
- State Card/Trainer preferred.
