Position Summary:

The Inspection Engineer (CAT 2) plays a vital role within TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS), focusing on the inspection and evaluation of pressure equipment in line with regulatory and industry standards. The role involves preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE), coordinating inspection activities, and performing non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure the continued safety and compliance of assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) for pressure systems and related equipment.
  • Identify preparation requirements for WSE and coordinate examinations in accordance with approved documentation.
  • Perform basic NDT inspections, including ultrasonic thickness measurements, magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
  • Coordinate third-party or specialist NDT providers for complex or extensive inspection needs.
  • Assess asset condition and deterioration to determine equipment integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review design calculations and sentence defects based on inspection findings and applicable standards.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photographic evidence, supporting data, and technical recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with TÜV Rheinland’s safety, quality, and operational procedures during all inspection activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • HNC/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • UKAS RG21 CAT 2 certification in Pressure Equipment Inspection.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 1 year of in-service inspection of pressure systems.
  • Proficiency in basic NDT techniques (UT, MT, PT).
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills.

Desirable:

  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or working toward professional registration.
  • Experience in deterioration assessment and defect sentencing for pressure systems.
  • Familiarity with inspection software and digital reporting tools.
