Position Summary
TÜV Rheinland is seeking a qualified Inspection Engineer (Category 2) to support its Industrial Services division in the Southern Region of the UK. This role involves conducting in-service inspections, developing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE), and providing essential engineering support in line with UKAS and pressure systems regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years of industry experience, and a keen eye for safety, compliance, and technical accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection & Written Schemes: Prepare and review Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) to ensure equipment compliance with relevant legislation.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Perform and interpret basic NDT methods such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI). Coordinate with third-party providers for specialized testing.
- Reporting & Repairs: Deliver concise inspection reports with photographic evidence, defect assessments, and recommendations. Review engineering design calculations and oversee the planning of any required repair work.
- Engineering Support: Participate in Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) assessments and provide technical advice to clients to maintain engineering and regulatory standards.
Key Requirements
- Education: HNC or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) – mandatory
- Certification: Must meet UKAS RG2 requirements for in-service inspection of pressure systems
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in mechanical or pressure systems inspection, preferably within the Chemical or Oil & Gas industries
- Additional Skills:
- Familiarity with relevant standards and industry codes
- Ability to write structured, high-quality technical reports
- Previous management or supervisory experience is a plus
