Position Summary:
The Inspection Engineer CAT 2 is responsible for providing inspection and certification services for pressurised static equipment, including vessels, tanks, piping, and relief devices, in accordance with regulatory and client requirements. The role involves conducting examinations, coordinating NDT activities, assessing equipment condition, and supporting risk-based inspection processes as part of TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS) in the UK.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review Written Schemes of Examination (WSE).
- Identify preparation requirements based on WSE.
- Conduct examinations in accordance with WSE.
- Perform simple NDT activities including ultrasonic thickness checks, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing.
- Coordinate third-party NDT providers for advanced or specialist inspection methods.
- Prepare clear and detailed inspection reports, including photographic documentation.
- Assess equipment deterioration and evaluate defects.
- Review design calculations and determine appropriate defect disposition.
- Coordinate repair activities.
- Participate in Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) studies.
Qualifications:
- HNC or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (essential).
- UKAS RG 2 In-Service Inspection of Pressure Systems certification (essential).
- Incorporated Engineer status (desirable).
Requirements:
- Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent qualification (e.g., HNC with relevant experience, vocational qualification level 4).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
- At least 1 year of experience in an engineering discipline associated with the inspection field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles.
- Ability to make and defend technical decisions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
- Mechanical engineering background.
- Experience in chemical and/or oil & gas sectors (desirable).
- Understanding of fabrication or repair of pressure equipment (desirable).
- Experience with NDT techniques (desirable).
- Man-management experience (desirable).
- Subject to UK security clearance screening requirements.
