Position Summary:
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for performing quality control and code-compliance inspections on welded components and assemblies. The role focuses on verifying weld quality through visual inspection and coordination of nondestructive examinations, ensuring adherence to applicable standards, and supporting client QA/QC programs across field and shop environments.
Responsibilities:
- Perform visual welding inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API codes, and project-specific criteria.
- Review welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification test records (WQTR).
- Monitor welding activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures, standards, and client specifications.
- Coordinate with NDT personnel to support additional inspection methods such as UT, RT, MT, and PT.
- Generate inspection reports, weld maps, and deficiency logs as required.
- Witness welder qualification tests and maintain compliance with welder continuity logs.
- Interface with client QA/QC personnel, fabricators, and engineers to resolve welding and quality-related issues.
- Adhere to company safety protocols and Life Critical Expectations.
- Uphold industry standards and company expectations related to professionalism, integrity, and quality.
Qualifications:
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Familiarity with codes and standards including AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, B31.3, and API 1104.
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques such as SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to generate reports and interact with stakeholders.
- Experience in refinery, power, chemical, or infrastructure environments is preferred.
- Additional certifications such as API 510/570/653, AMPP, or NDT Level II/III are advantageous.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (technical degree or military experience is a plus).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background checks.
- Ability to obtain TWIC, DISA, or other site access credentials.
- Ability to travel, work extended hours, and operate in field environments including confined spaces and elevated work areas.
