Position Summary:
The Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician supports non-destructive testing operations by collecting field data for external corrosion direct assessment campaigns and cathodic protection surveys. The role involves performing inspections, testing, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems, recording and interpreting CP data, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards. The technician collaborates with engineers, project managers, and field crews to support integrity management projects and campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems, including rectifiers, anode beds, test stations, ground beds, bonds, and isolation devices.
Conduct line locating, Close Interval Surveys (CIS), Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) surveys, and Large Stand-off Magnetometry (LSM) surveys.
Record, analyze, and interpret cathodic protection data to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Troubleshoot system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare detailed field reports, documentation, and drawings.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including NACE/AMPP, DOT/PHMSA, and API.
Work safely in accordance with company policies, environmental regulations, and job site requirements.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field crews to support inspection projects and campaigns.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- NACE/AMPP CP2 certification.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in cathodic protection testing, installation, or maintenance.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, maps, and cathodic protection system schematics.
- Proficiency with cathodic protection testing equipment such as multimeters, data loggers, interrupters, and GPS devices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions and travel to job sites.
- Ability to walk long distances during surveys.
Requirements:
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk continuously for 1–5 miles while carrying approximately 40 lbs.
- Ability to squat or lean approximately once per hour, up to five times per day.
