Position Summary

The CAT 2 Inspection Engineer will be responsible for the inspection and assessment of pressure systems in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves preparing and reviewing Written Schemes of Examination (WSE), carrying out nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques, and coordinating third-party NDT providers where specialist expertise is required. The position requires technical reporting, defect sentencing, and support for risk-based inspection (RBI) studies, while maintaining close collaboration with clients to ensure compliance and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews Written Schemes of Examination (WSE).
  • Performs basic NDT inspections using ultrasonic thickness testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and dye penetrant inspection (DPI).
  • Coordinates external NDT providers for advanced or specialized inspection requirements.
  • Produces clear inspection reports, incorporating photographs, deterioration assessments, and sentencing of defects.
  • Reviews design calculations and coordinates repairs as needed.
  • Supports risk-based inspection (RBI) studies and provides technical guidance to clients.
  • Ensures compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Requirements

  • Education: HNC/Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) – essential.
  • Certification: UKAS RG2 – In-Service Inspection of Pressure Systems – essential.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in engineering disciplines, with at least 1 year in in-service inspection of pressure systems.
  • Preferred Expertise: Experience within the Chemical or Oil & Gas sectors is desirable.
  • Additional: Previous management experience is advantageous.
