Position Summary:
The Assistant Technician supports Level II NDE Technicians in performing designated Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities while gaining practical experience and technical knowledge. The role involves assisting with equipment setup, maintenance, documentation, and adherence to company safety procedures. Individuals performing duties as an Assistant Radiographer or Radiographer Trainee are also responsible for supporting industrial radiographic operations under direct supervision while ensuring compliance with applicable safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Level II NDE Technicians with designated NDT method activities.
- Support technicians with the setup and teardown of inspection equipment.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks, equipment calibrations, and general upkeep of equipment and facilities.
- Assist in preparing accurate documentation and reports for services provided.
- Learn and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Operate radiographic equipment only under the direct visual supervision of a qualified Radiographer or Radiographic Instructor, when assigned as an Assistant Radiographer or Radiographer Trainee.
- Maintain constant surveillance and immediate control of industrial radiographic equipment while it is in use.
- Secure industrial radiographic equipment from unauthorized removal whenever it is not under constant surveillance.
- Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted areas during radiographic operations.
- Notify appropriate safety management personnel in the event of an incident and provide assistance as required.
Qualifications:
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and respond to short-notice work assignments.
- Proven ability to follow precise directions and procedures.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing work schedules.
- Ability to read technical documents and engineering specifications is preferred.
Requirements:
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight and out-of-town assignments.
- Ability to be certified as Trustworthy and Reliable in accordance with NRC criteria.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
