Position Summary:
The ASME Authorized Inspector (AI) is responsible for ensuring that boilers, pressure vessels, and piping systems comply with applicable engineering, safety, and quality requirements. The role involves conducting shop and field inspections, witnessing testing and non-destructive examinations, reviewing documentation, and verifying compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) Code and National Board regulations. The position plays a critical role in maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering integrity across inspection activities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct shop and field inspections at critical stages of fabrication and assembly.
- Witness hydrostatic, pneumatic, and proof tests, as well as non-destructive examinations (NDE).
- Ensure inspection and test equipment calibration and verification requirements are met.
- Maintain a detailed ASME Inspector Diary documenting inspections, findings, and witnessed activities.
- Verify material certification, metallurgical traceability, and quality records for compliance with ASME BPV Code requirements.
- Review and validate engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations against applicable code requirements.
- Confirm Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder/operator qualifications.
- Verify that repairs and alterations meet ASME code requirements.
- Identify, document, and report non-conforming conditions and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Ensure all ASME BPV Code requirements are satisfied prior to application of the U-stamp, including nameplate and National Board registration markings.
- Participate in joint reviews with Certificate Holders and AI Supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in boiler and pressure vessel inspections.
- Strong knowledge of ASME BPV Code and National Board regulations.
- Experience in third-party inspection activities and non-destructive examination (NDE) methods.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Requirements:
- Minimum of six (6) years of work experience with ASME standards.
- Minimum of six (6) years of work experience with pressure vessels.
