Position Summary:
The Advanced SIS NDE Specialist is responsible for the technical implementation and operational support of Specialist Inspection Services (SIS) advanced Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) technologies. The role focuses on advanced ultrasonic testing methods, including Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) Corrosion Mapping.
This position involves performing inspections in onshore and offshore environments, supporting project execution, mentoring technicians, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards. The role requires travel to client sites, manufacturing facilities, and offshore locations, primarily domestic with potential for international travel.
Responsibilities:
- Perform specialized NDE inspections using advanced ultrasonic methods including PAUT, AUT Corrosion Mapping, and other ultrasonic techniques on piping, pressure vessels, pipelines, and structural components.
- Analyze, interpret, and compile inspection results to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
- Prepare and execute inspection jobs in accordance with work instructions, with emphasis on specialist techniques.
- Support SIS Management with day-to-day operational activities.
- Work closely with clients to understand inspection requirements and deliver appropriate NDE solutions.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports and present inspection findings to clients.
- Maintain responsibility for inspection equipment, equipment maintenance, and QHSE document control in accordance with company and client requirements.
- Continue professional development and obtain qualifications in additional conventional and advanced NDE methods.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and assessing associate technicians through in-house and field training programs.
- Perform advanced ultrasonic examinations on onshore pipelines, plant piping systems, offshore topside, and subsea piping systems.
- Maintain test sample logs and assess requirements for test sample acquisition.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the scope, capabilities, and limitations of certified inspection methods.
- Support SIS Technical Management in maintaining procedures, developing techniques, and managing quality control for relevant disciplines.
- Assist with business development activities including updating technical information sheets, bulletins, and participating in open days, workshops, and industry trade conferences.
- Keep informed of technical developments within the SIS group and the wider industry.
- Adhere to all company and client health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSE&Q) policies and procedures.
- Mentor and support Level I and Level II NDE technicians in advanced ultrasonic methods.
- Ensure compliance with best practices, client requirements, and industry standards.
- Travel frequently, often with short notice, and adapt to challenging environments including confined spaces, elevated areas, and adverse weather conditions.
- Work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required to meet project deadlines.
- Perform additional duties as required to support organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Required:
- SNT-TC-1A compliant classroom training hours in UT and PAUT.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience applying advanced ultrasonic testing methods.
- Minimum Level II certification per ASNT-TC-1A or CP-189 in UT and PAUT (company certification exams required).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with industry-standard and manufacturer-specific advanced NDE software.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Compliance with company and client health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Desired:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience across multiple industry segments including oil & gas, power generation (nuclear and/or fossil), pipeline, new construction, and in-service inspection.
- International inspection experience.
- Third-party UT certifications such as ACCP, PCN, CSWIP, EPRI, API QUTE, or equivalent.
- Experience with multiple ultrasonic equipment and software platforms including Zetec/Ultravision and Olympus/TomoView.
- Knowledge of pipeline systems and procedures, including PipeWizard AUT systems.
- SNT-TC-1A compliant classroom training hours in MT, PT, and ET.
