UT - Ultrasonic Inspection

Overview:

Ultrasonic testing utilizes ultrasonic pulse waves with center frequencies ranging from 0.5 to 25 MHz to detect surface or subsurface flaws in solid materials. This course is available under both PCN and ASNT schemes.

Course Overview:

The Array Training PCN Level 2 (Plate Tester - Inspection of Wrought ISO 20807) course provides a comprehensive understanding of ultrasonic theory and practical skills required to perform thickness checks, locate, and size defects in wrought materials, such as laminations, by ISO 20807.

Course Objectives:

Upon certification, as a PCN Level 2 Ultrasonic Plate Tester, individuals demonstrate competence in performing NDT according to specific procedures. Within the scope defined on the certificate, Level 2 personnel are authorized by the employer to:

• Select the appropriate Ultrasonic Testing technique for the test method.
• Define the limitations of the testing method's application.
• Translate Ultrasonic Testing codes, standards, specifications, and procedures into instructions adapted to the working conditions.
• Set up and verify Ultrasonic Testing equipment settings.
• Perform and supervise Ultrasonic tests.
• Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications, or procedures.
• Carry out and supervise tasks at or below Level 2.
• Guide personnel at or below Level 2.
• Report the results of Ultrasonic tests.

Course Content:

The course covers the following topics:

• Basic concepts
• Principles of ultrasonic testing
• Mathematical basics
• Types of wave modes
• Reflection and refraction laws
• Transmission and reception of ultrasonic waves
• Transducer characteristics (beam spread, dead zone, near and far zone)
• Flaw detector operation and use
• Equipment function checks
• Use of calibration and reference blocks
• Defect location and sizing techniques
• Report writing and discussion of relevant standards and specifications (e.g., BS, EN)
• Basic product technology detailing various defects associated with the manufacturing process

Prerequisites:

To receive a BINDT Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Plate Tester - Inspection of Wrought ISO 20807 PCN Level 2 certificate, the minimum duration of training and work experience are as follows:

• Training: 40 hours
• Work Experience: 4 months
• The required duration of training is fulfilled by attending this training course.

• Attendance of training certificate
• BINDT PCN Level 2 certificate (valid for 5 years), issued directly by BINDT.
