Ultrasonic Testing (UT) - Welds - Blended Learning Package

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to ultrasonic testing of welded joints and is designed for testers, inspectors, engineers, and surveyors. It is also suitable for those working in the aerospace industry. The course offers a blended learning approach, which includes eLearning modules and in-class practical training.

The eLearning component is structured to separate the learning of key concepts from the learning of a specific instrument. Students can study at their own pace and convenience. The intuitive and logical training structure, coupled with interactive exercises, enables students to understand the principles behind set-up, calibration, acquisition, and data analysis.

The 10-day practical classroom training covers the basic principles of sound, generation, and detection of sound, the behavior of sound in a material, the flaw detector, use of angled beam probes for weld scanning, welding processes, and weld defects, practical exercises on test specimens containing simulated flaws, examination of parent plate, butt welds, and instruction writing.

The course ends with a certification examination in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712.

By the end of the course, you should be able to explain the theoretical background of the techniques, calibrate ultrasonic equipment, measure the thickness of steel plates and determine levels of attenuation, locate and evaluate laminations, select the correct type of probe to examine welded butt joints in steel plate and aerospace components/structures, report on the location and size of defects in typically welded butt joints, interpret code requirements, and meet the syllabus requirements for CSWIP Levels 1 and 2.
