Penetrant Testing (PT)

This course is designed for NDT personnel, inspectors, and technicians who are involved in or responsible for weld inspection, inspection of castings and forgings during fabrication, or in-service inspection. The training is suitable for individuals of all levels and offers certification in Levels 1, 2, and 3. When you book with TWI, you will receive FREE pre-course eLearning.

The course covers a range of topics, including materials, methods, equipment, safety aspects, and compatibility of materials. Practical exercises are included to help you assess sensitivity, and Level 2 attendees will also receive instruction on writing and applying inspection instructions.

The training is in compliance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9712 and concludes with both a written and practical exam. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to explain the basic principles of penetrant inspection methods, carry out penetrant inspection using solvent-removable, water-washable, and post-emulsifiable/removal processes, and write clear and concise inspection instructions and test reports. You will also meet syllabus requirements for CSWIP and PCN Level 2.

The listed price is for direct access to Level 2, which includes examination and levy fees. For Level 1 options, please contact Customer Services. Please note that all candidates attending a PCN examination (initial, retest, or renewal) must provide photo ID (e.g., driving license number, passport number, PCN ID Card) on the day of the exam.

There are no mandatory course entry requirements for this training. The minimum duration of the training, which includes both theoretical and practical elements, is 16 hours for Level 1 and 24 hours for Level 2 (or 40 hours for Direct Level 2). The training hours requirement can be fulfilled by attending one of TWI's training courses.

Certification requires a minimum duration of experience prior to or following the successful completion of the qualification examination. For Level 1, the minimum duration is one month, and for Level 2 (or Direct Level 2), the minimum duration is three months (or four months for Direct Level 2). Certification will not be issued until successful completion of the examination and the required experience is achieved.

Please note that TWI India and TWI South East Asia have decided to withdraw ATO of BINDT, so they will not be able to undertake any PCN courses or exams.
