Designs and manufactures a wide range of products and solutions from precision measurement of mechanical components before, during and after the manufacturing process, to process controls and machine tool conditions, from leak tests for all industrial sectors, to automatic assembly and control lines. Marposs is a primary supplier of the major automotive manufacturers, for both ICE and EV applications, as well as the aerospace, biomedical, energy, consumer electronics and glass containers sectors.


The headquarters facilities are in Bentivoglio, about ten kilometres north of Bologna, Italy.

The headquarters consist of  three factories set side by side, plus other service buildings (an internal restaurant and technological centres).

The total covered space measures 38,000 square metres, surrounded by 30,000 square metres of gardens, plus yards and parking lot.

This is the location of the central research and development, design, production, marketing and education/training organizations.

The manufacturing organization has two major components:

  • the Product Manufacturing Center which produces standard products;
  • the Application Manufacturing Center, which produces customized systems to be integrated into customers' facilities.

Marposs operates with the most advanced equipment to assure the quality of its products.

For instance, the assembly of printed circuits is performed on a completely automated SMD line, integrated with opto-electronic systems which assure optimum levels of quality together with a high degree of operating flexibility. Testing is made with advanced technologies and machines: full circuit inspection using mobile inspection probes perform boundary scan-type tests, the only ones capable of performing high reliability tests on printed circuit boards with complex integrated circuits.

Both Manufacturing Centers work in tight cooperation with the R&D department and with the three commercial divisions:

  • the Machine Tool Division operates in the world of measurement and control on machine tools;
  • the Standard Component Division works in the field of standard gauges and components for the gauge makers;
  • the Special Application Division covers the area of customized gauging stations (manual benches and automatic machines) tailored on the specific customers requests.

In a modern manufacturing line, assembly machines and production-line integrity tests allow to manufacture a final product with high reliability and ever increasing performance.

Assembly Machines ensure high performance in terms of cycle time and process stability. They automate repetitive task where short cycle times and quality of the resulting assembled systems are required. Assembly Machines  are used in environments where heavy parts are to be assembled with other components.

Marposs also provides production-line integrity tests, using  non-invasive methodologies, such as:

  • Non-Destructive (ND) Eddy Current testing, to verify surface faults (such as cracks, porosity, blow holes, inclusions, stripping, etc.)
  • Leak testing, to verify the presence of a leak in a component or device



Leak Testing

Leak testing is a non-destructive method to verify the presence of a leak in a component or device.

It is implemented as a control methodology for monitoring production process and product quality control.

Leak tests are used to find out possible leaks due to non-suitable material (porosity, blowholes, cracks), or in the machining process to find out machining errors or defective parts, and ultimately in assembly, to find out missing or defective gaskets, wrong positioning or assembly.

The presence of a leakage could jeopardize the correct functioning of the component,  device or its life span, and can also be potentially dangerous for the environment and the safety of its user.

There are different methods to verify the presence of a leakage, from the traditional immersion of the component in a water tank, to the pressure decay detection in pressurized parts, up to the use of tracing gas.

Assembly Machines

A modern  manufacturing line is designed to deliver a final product with high reliability and ever increasing performance.

Assembly Machines ensure high performance in terms of cycle time and process stability. They complete the product during manufacturing.

We produce a full range of assembly machines to fulfil modern requirements for the production of cylinder heads, cylinder blocks and other mechanical components.

These machines range from the assembly of the bearing caps to the fitting of the cup plus or other means to seal some conducts in the part.

Other assembly machines are used to to fit the valve guide and seat in the right position in the cylinder head.


Marposs complements its geometric measurement solutions with solutions for non-destructive testing using eddy current technology.

The testing options can be divided in three large groups:

  • Material integrity test, to check for the presence of defects (cracks, porosity, blow holes, inclusions) on the surface and in the layer just below the surface.
  • Material properties test, to check if the thermal cycles (hardening, hardening and tempering, annealing, stress relieving, etc.) have been performed correctly. Material identification checks are done to sort parts with the same geometry but made with different materials.
  • Thread inspection to check if the treading has been carried out and its quality.

In addition to the non-destructive checks performed with the eddy currents, we have developed a durometer for the conventional measurement of surface hardness, according to the Rockwell scale (HRC or HRA); which uses a diamond penetrator to measure the hardness of the sample being tested.
