Overview

CIC Inspection & Consulting LTD. was founded by Dennis Clarke, a Graduate Metallurgist with over 25 years of industry experience. As one of the founders of CIC Inspection, Dennis has spent the last 20 years working in metallurgical consulting, applying engineering services to solve a diverse range of customer ranges.

Driven by the unrelenting passion of our founder, the CIC team is committed to redefining the non-destructive testing inspection process and pushing the limits of technological innovation. We have continually raised the bar, which is why we've been around much longer than the rest. You can count on us to sharpen your company’s competitive edge and help you maximize business growth and profitability. Our standard services go beyond providing just analytical results, we help our clients with proper sampling procedures and unrelated lubrication problems.

Products & Services
Metallurgical Lab Testing

Metallurgical testing enables you to improve your product quality and gain a competitive advantage in these industries. As such, understanding what causes equipment or a building product's failure is critical to making improvements. Our metallurgical testing capabilities in construction include:

  • Failure analysis (metals and non-metals)
  • Weld procedure testing
  • Qualifying welders
Structural Inspection

Structural steel inspections are a key service for building construction and oil & gas services. The details are critical, especially in terms of safety and integrity. At CIC Inspection & Consulting LTD., we provide both field and laboratory testing services to ensure that construction materials are safe and reliable. Our inspection services include dimensional inspection, weld procedure development, bolt torquing, non-destructive testing, as well as witnessing tests and auditing quality control programs.

Communication is key to the success of complex projects. CIC's approach to structural steel inspection projects involves building close working relationships between our materials professionals and structural engineers. By joining your team early in the design process, we can help you identify any constraints or weaknesses in your materials selection and welding procedures. It's our goal to help our clients speed up construction while reducing costs.

PAUT & TOFD

APPLICATION: piping & pipeline welds, HIC & CSS detection, hi-temp weld inspection, corrosion mapping, flange and bolt scanning, SS weld inspection.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) have come a long way in recent years. When used together, the two NDT techniques reinforce each other’s strengths increasing the probability of detecting defects and weaknesses within a structural component.

Our small piping solutions start with diameters up to 4.5" using compact scanners that are built for increased productivity. Larger diameters piping/pipeline scanners cover diameters above 4.5".

With our code-compliant and automated PAUT technologies, we are well-positioned to tackle any project, large or small. We don’t compromise on quality. Our PAUT acquisition units are selected from the best suppliers around the world, delivering speed, repeatable consistency, and unsurpassed accuracy.

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)

CUI is any type of corrosion that occurs due to moisture buildup. It is a prevalent problem affecting equipment and structures in many industries, including oil and gas, petrochemical, and related sectors.

CIC provides powerful and portable solutions for your CUI inspection demands, guaranteeing no downtime or costly replacement of insulation. Our fast and reliable CUI inspection services provide you with accurate, real-time C-scan images and fast data acquisition without the costly removal of insulation.

Shearwave Ultrasonics (Conventional UT)

Our Ultrasonic shear wave tools are widely used in the oil & gas sectors to inspect pipeline welds and for the in-service detection plus characterization of corrosion in pipes, tanks, and vessels. Due to the probe sizes, conventional UT is often the only method that is accessible to an inspector.

Surface Inspection Techniques

At CIC, we employ a comprehensive range of surface inspection techniques.

  • Liquid Penetrant Inspection
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection
  • Positive Material Inspection
  • Hardness Testing
  • Ferrite Testing
Equipment Inspection

Industrial equipment and heavy machinery should be inspected on a schedule to ensure its fit for purpose and that it still meet code requirements. As automation and robotics become industry standards, compliance is now a competitive differentiator. That’s why you need to partner with an inspection company that can provide you with timely and efficient solutions. We offer valuation and technical analysis services for clients in all industries. From mining to manufacturing, we handle it all. If your company uses heavy machinery of any kind, our experts are here to help ensure your assets meet regulatory requirements.

PAUT & TOFD

Present-day flaw analysis requires accuracy and precision in detecting, locating, and sizing defects. Phased Array Ultrasonic Technology has come a long way in the last decade, allowing for the detection of defects that cannot be easily identified with conventional NDT techniques like manual ultrasonic texting. Our code-compliant and automated PAUT technologies can be used to scan and map complex geometry components.

We utilize Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) to evaluate the integrity of welds for both pre-service and in-serve inspections. TOFD is typically necessary for the inspection of materials of larger wall thickness.

Whether it's structural work or corrosion assessments, CIC Inspection & Consulting LTD. is uniquely positioned to handle any PAUT/TOFD project, large or small, offering advanced PAUT/TOFD inspection solutions customized to your needs.

Shear Wave Ultrasonics (Conventional UT)

CIC uses shear wave ultrasonics in structural, fabrication, and in-service inspections of equipment and heavy machinery. Conventional ultrasonic testing is often the only method that is accessible to an inspector but is also one of the most effective ways to assess surface and subsurface anomalies.

From manual techniques to fully automated solutions, we employ shear wave ultrasonics in several applications, including thickness testing and high-speed corrosion mapping. Thickness testing is used in all industries during the construction and maintenance phases and in the life of assets like piping, tanks, vessels, and pipelines.

Our ultrasonic tools are widely used in the oil & gas industries for the in-service detection and characterization of corrosion in pipes, tanks, and vessels.

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)

At CIC Inspection & Consulting LTD., we offer a powerful, fast, and portable solution for all CUI inspection demands providing accurate, real-time C-scan images without any downtime or costly replacement of insulation.

Visual Testing

Visual testing is the oldest of the NDT techniques, but it's still pretty effective. It's also often the first step in the equipment inspection process. VT can be used to inspect a variety of product forms, including weld elements, machined components, and casting. It's also low in cost and easy to apply.

Our CSA W172.2 certified technicians are well capable of handling any structural issues, and our CWB II technicians can be utilized for all weld inspections.

Surface Inspection Techniques

CIC utilizes a comprehensive range of surface inspection techniques in equipment testing and inspection. These include:

  • Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) to detect casting, forging, plus welding surface defects.
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) to detect surface or subsurface defects in ferrous materials.
  • Positive Material Inspection (PMI) for the analysis of metallic alloys and their constituent elements.
  • Hardness Testing (HT) to determine an equipment’s resistance to indentation.
  • Ferrite Testing (FT) to detect flaws and defects in austenitic stainless steel and Duplex materials.
