Advanced Mechanical Systems is a mechanical engineering company specialising in the bespoke design and manufacture of robotic equipment for both Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of infrastructure assets.

AMS’ core competencies reside in the design and manufacturing of bespoke NDT and SHM equipment for operations within hazardous environments and areas with limited access. ROBOTIC SNAKE

The AMS snake inspection system is a unique solution developed for the inspection of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) headers and finned tube bundles. The system allows non-destructive inspections to be carried out without cutting open the header vessel to gain access. Instead an inspection stub or riser is utilised which can be as small as 40mm in diameter. The equipment is deployed into the header through the access diameter to locate the selected tube bore and feed through a position encoded NFA probe or steerable endoscope camera. The NFA probe is specialised for the finned tube application and provides a high-resolution scan of the entire inner tube surface. This unique solution offers Combined Cycle Gas Turbine CCGT plant operators high quality inspection data as well as reduced inspection time to maximise HRSG overall plant availability.

ROBOTIC PIG

Internal Inspection Tool: Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG)

The PIG applies the same LRU technology as the external nodes but is deployed inside the pipe, for more information on the external nodes click here. The iPIM-PIG leverages on the ability of LRU to reach areas not accessible to conventional probes; hence, this distinctive advantage will enable the inspection of previously unreachable areas. 

For instance, the system has advantages in applications where there is a cylindrical structure that is either blocked or has no external access (e.g. pipes with obstructions or oil rig caissons and riser pipes). The modular PIG has the potential to cover a range of applications and can be used in a motorised, built-in or winched configuration.
