Overview

‍Acellent Technologies, Inc. is a global leader in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). With over two decades of experience in SHM, Acellent leads the way in the Industry 4.0 technological revolution

We design, build, and support SHM systems for monitoring the integrity and condition of metal and composite structures, ranging from aircraft and rotorcraft to pipelines, bridges, wind turbines, automobiles, heavy machinery, and more. We provide complete, end-to-end solutions that have been deployed across multiple industries in order to automate inspection and maintenance procedures. Beyond our commercially-available products, we are committed to continuous innovation and actively pursue a large number of research and development programs.

The backbone of all our SHM systems is the patented SMART Layer® technology, which is a custom appliqué consisting of a network of distributed sensors that can be easily installed onto new structures or retrofitted into existing structures. The SMART Layer® works in conjunction with our hardware and software, operating in either a "passive" listening mode (for impact monitoring), an "active" interrogation mode (for damage detection), or a combination of both modes.

Welcome to the age of SMART Structures!

Aerospace

The aerospace industry has been our primary focus and passion since the company's founding. Acellent's Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems were first developed to meet the uniquely demanding needs of the aerospace industry and continue to be widely sought and used by companies in this industry. Our SHM systems offer an effective, convenient means for monitoring the structural integrity of aircraft, rotorcraft, and space structures.

We provide a variety of solutions to accommodate different needs, including systems designed specifically to detect damage in composites, reveal fatigue cracks in metals, and perform real-time monitoring of impact events. Whether you need to monitor a specific "hot spot" area that is known to be highly susceptible to damage or a large structural region such as a wing or fuselage, we likely have an SHM solution that will meet your needs—or we will work with you to build a custom solution.

Generally, our SHM systems can be operated in either a standalone "off-board" mode (to provide on-demand assessment) or an "on-board" mode (to provide real-time monitoring). Onboard installations integrate all components of the SHM system (sensors, hardware, and software) with the structure to be monitored, whereas offboard applications require only that the sensors be permanently installed on the structure. The hardware and software remain on the ground and are connected manually to the sensors when it is time for an inspection. This means that an offboard system can only collect data and provide health reports when the aircraft is on the ground, while an onboard system continuously records data and provides structural assessments, even during flight. Onboard systems can even be configured to interface with an existing IVHM system (for aircraft applications) or HUMS (for rotorcraft applications).
