Rodrigo Rueda, Project Leader of the Monitoring and Inspection Research (MIR) section of TWI, along with Dr Stephen Edmondson, Chief Science Officer of Direct-C, will be presenting the results of WrapSense, an InnovateUK collaborative project between Direct-C, TrackWise and TWI, aiming to research, develop and validate novel technologies for hydrocarbon leakage detection.

WrapSense technology is based on a novel highly sensitive nano-composite coating material capable of detecting even the slightest concentration of liquid hydrocarbons coming into direct contact with it, making it a highly effective technology for detecting leakages in oil and gas and aerospace applications.

The first part of the webinar will cover the working principle of the nano-composite polymer sensor in detecting hydrocarbons and its ideal industrial applications. The second part will showcase the technology qualification process carried out by TWI; comprising laboratory and field validations.

Speakers

Rodrigo Rueda - Project Leader - Monitoring & Inspection Research
TWI Ltd

Rodrigo has an MSc in Structural Engineering from Universidad de los Andes and an MSc in Structural Integrity from Brunel University, London. He has been actively involved in the structural health monitoring (SHM) aspect of numerous projects at TWI. Rodrigo’s current interest relies in developing, validating and qualifying monitoring strategies for the SHM of oil and gas, aerospace and civil infrastructure applications, featuring expertise on Acoustic Emission, Guided Wave and Ultrasonic technologies, as well as incorporating innovative solutions. Rodrigo is working towards professionally registering as a Charted Engineer.

Dr. Stephen Edmondson - Chief Science Officer
Direct - C

Stephen has a long track record in innovation working with research teams in the coatings and oil and gas markets for major companies, including DuPont and ShawCor. For the last three years he has worked with Direct-C, a start up from the University of Calgary, which owns a novel nanocomposite-based smart coating technology. His role is to help commercialise the existing leak detection technology and to take the technology into new markets, such as structural health monitoring.
