The Master Curve and Brittle Steels

After the success of TWI’s webinar introducing the different fracture toughness testing standards over the summer, we are following up with two webinars which go into a little more detail about how to get the most from your fracture toughness test data.

This first webinar will explain the background to The Master Curve approach to characterising fracture toughness by a reference temperature, T0, for brittle steels. This FREE webinar will introduce the method, and the rationale behind it. You will find out what test data is needed, and when Master Curve methods can be used for best effect.

Can the Master Curve be applied to welds as well as parent steels? How does dynamic loading affect the results? Join TWI’s fracture experts Philippa Moore and Matthew Haslett to find out.

A live demonstration of performing a Master Curve analysis with a set of fracture toughness test results, using the CrackWISE toolkit will be part of this webinar.

Part 2 of these ‘getting the most from fracture toughness data’ webinars will look at R-curves and ductile alloys and that webinar will be held on 14 January 2021 at 15.30 UK time (details to be published soon).

Who should attend?

  • Welding Engineers
  • Structural Integrity Engineers
  • Metallurgists
  • Welding Inspectors

It is recommended that delegates have watched the webinar introducing fracture mechanics standards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkrPlsTIEg4), which includes the key concepts of fracture mechanics, which will be developed in more detail in these webinars.
