Automated Surface Inspection Using Eddy Current Array Technology

Inspecting the surface of long bars and tubes has been a requirement in the metal manufacturing industry for many years. The surface inspection is as important as material volume integrity inspection. As material quality and performance standards continuously evolve, so too do the inspection requirements. While different technologies can be used to detect surface defects, eddy current array (ECA) technology stands out due to its ability to adapt to various geometries and provides a rugged approach against deviations on both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic products.

Pier Lévesque, System Product Manager, Olympus Canada

Pier Lévesque has over 20 years of experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Following an academic path in science, he completed a technical diploma in physics. After graduation, he joined R/D Tech Inc (now Olympus NDT Canada) in 2001. Pier started as an NDT specialist working on conventional ultrasonic testing and phased array industrial inspection system development. He actively participated in the development and installation of a wide variety of NDT system solutions worldwide building his expertise and experience. He then held the position of Project Manager for rotating tube inspection systems, working with the largest global pipe manufacturers. In 2009, he was promoted to tube and pipe product management and held this position until a new opportunity arose in product management for the bar and billets market segment.
